McMenamins Hotels, Pubs & Breweries on Memorial Day will reopen the historic Gearhart Hotel on the Oregon Coast.

McMenamins Hotels, Pubs & Breweries will reopen the Gearhart Hotel on the Oregon Coast at the historic Gearhart Golf Links course on Memorial Day.

Construction of the 18-room hotel began Jan. 4 on the third floor of Kelly House, which also houses McMenamins Sand Trap Pub and the Gearhart Golf Links Pro Shop.

Portland-based McMenamins will begin accepting reservations in February. Room rates start at $150. Gearhart is the latest offering from brothers Mike and Brian McMenamin, who operate a network of popular hotels, restaurants and entertainment venues in historic spots scattered throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington.

The new hotel follows three predecessors that at one time or another flanked the golf course. The original Hotel Gearhart was constructed in 1890 as a summer retreat for Portlanders and burned in 1913. Its successor burned two years later. The third Hotel Gearhart opened in 1923 and was razed in 1972.

Gearhart Golf Links is an 18-hole open-to-the-public course. Founded in 1892, it is the oldest course west of the Mississippi. Columbia Sportswear?

McMenamins is teaming with the golf course to organize a series of regular tournaments. The first is The True Oregonian Golf Tournament. Set for Jan. 28, it will take place no matter what the weather is like. Registration is $40 per player.
